A Google Trend Chart on Artificial Intelligence, ChatGPT, Bard & Kim Kardashian

Good news. Artificial Intelligence has not taken over the world. Yet. As you can see in the Hype Chart above, ChatGPT reached peak hype (that is, peak trending on Google searches) in March of 2023. For comparison, I included a trendline for searches on “artificial intelligence” and “bard.” Because ChatGPT immediately eclipsed both of those search terms, I included a more telling trendline on what (some) Americans care about. Kim Kardashian.

In a stunning race to the top, ChatGPT surpassed Kim Kardashian early in December of 2022. Of course, until November of 2022, none of the AI terms—artificial intelligence, chat gpt, or bard—could compare to Ms. Kardashian. But now, in June of 2023, we have a clear winner. ChatGPT. 

While Ms. Kardashian and Bard are vying for second place, ChatGPT is still out of reach. What does this mean for the world? Perhaps the hype with ChatGPT is real and lasting.
